Businesses & libraries

Recognize what matters. Determine the appropriate next home.

Kansas Book Depository works with organizations whose books, records, and printed history are approaching a decision point. Contact us before materials are separated, discarded, or dispersed.

Discuss an Organizational Collection

Large collections often reach a decision point because of space, relocation, closure, or changing responsibilities.

A capable regional partner

Begin before the materials are separated.

A first conversation can preserve context, identify what deserves closer attention, and keep an office move or collection transition from becoming an all-or-nothing decision.

The organization does not need to inventory or organize everything before contacting us.

For businesses and community organizations

Historical Materials Review

Businesses, schools, churches, associations, and other longstanding organizations often have historical materials stored in offices, basements, file rooms, and warehouses.

These may include catalogs, photographs, newsletters, ledgers, advertising, product literature, commemorative publications, correspondence, architectural records, and other printed pieces documenting the organization and its community.

Over time, responsibility for these materials can become unclear. An office move, change in leadership, shortage of space, merger, closure, or routine cleanout may place decades of history at risk before anyone has determined what deserves to be preserved.

KBD can visit the location, look at what has accumulated, identify material that merits closer attention, and discuss practical options for preserving, organizing, selling, donating, or rehoming it. The organization does not need to inventory or organize everything before contacting us.

Every project begins with a complimentary conversation to understand the materials, circumstances, and goals. More extensive on-site review, research, inventory assessment, or ongoing consulting may require a fee, which will be discussed before work begins.

For libraries

Collection Transition Services

Libraries are already professional stewards of their collections. We approach them as a capable regional partner when books and printed materials no longer fit their collecting scope or need another responsible destination.

This may include withdrawn or duplicate books, large donations outside the library’s scope, local-history material needing further attention, or collections affected by renovation, relocation, closure, or storage limitations.

Depending upon the collection and the institution’s needs, KBD services may include:

  • Evaluation of books and printed material
  • Purchase when appropriate
  • Removal and logistical coordination
  • Routing material toward resale, research, donation, or another suitable home
  • Help identifying another destination when KBD is not the right fit

We respect each library’s policies, procedures, timelines, and responsibility to its community.
